Hyban P
Application
Hyban P may be applied to varieties of autumn and spring sown cereals in the spring for the control of a range of broad-leaved annual and perennial weeds. It can also be applied to permanent grassland, including established leys (and where clovers are not an essential part of the sward) for the control of annual and perennial weeds.
Spraying on cereals should be carried out in spring, from the 5 leaf stage onwards but before jointing has started (GS 31). Application after GS 31 may result in a reduction in yield.
Under some conditions temporary prostration of the crop may occur after spraying. The crop will soon recover and grow away normally.
For best control of annual weeds, spray as soon as possible after the crop reaches the 5 leaf stage and the weeds have emerged.
To control perennial weeds eg. Creeping Thistle, spraying should be delayed as late as possible, up to GS 31.
CAUTION: DO NOT SPRAY CROPS that have been or will be undersown with clover or other legumes. DO NOT roll or harrow the crop for 7 days before or after spraying. Spraying should be carried out as accurately as possible with no overlapping or double application otherwise some crop scorch can occur.
In grassland for economical control of broad-leaved weeds Hyban P should be applied as a programme of sprays. Firstly use it in May or June when the weeds are actively growing. Perennials are best treated when the flower buds are showing, except for dock control when spraying is best carried out during the seedling stages or during the early stages of regeneration from shoots. Established perennials are unlikely to be sufficiently checked by a single season of treatment.
A second spray should be used to treat re-growth in summer or autumn, generally between August and October. Spray at 100-500L/Ha as a medium quality spray and always use a minimum of 200L of water if the crop is dense or the weeds are large.
Hyban P may also be used as a spot treatment for isolated patches of weeds. The treatment must be applied to completely wet the leaf surfaces until run-off. For long term reduction in docks, stinging nettles and thistles, treatment may have to be repeated in the following season.
Hyban P should be applied in good growing conditions for maximum effect. Do not apply Hyban P if the crop is under stress from drought, cold or water logging. Avoid night frosts. DO NOT spray if there is sufficient wind to cause spray drift or heavy rain is expected.
